Abstract/Notes

OBJECTIVE: To determine the extent of interest in chiropractic history among chiropractors in various nations, states and provinces.

DATA SOURCES: The worldwide chiropractor population distribution was determined by noting the circulation of the biweekly magazine, Dynamic Chiropractic. Interest in chiropractic history among chiropractors was implied by inclusion in the Membership Directory of the Association for the History of Chiropractic (AHC).

DATA EXTRACTION: An interest index was derived by expressing the number of members of the AHC as a percentage of the chiropractor population in each region.

DATA SYNTHESIS: Worldwide membership in the AHC involves less than 1% of the total estimated chiropractor population; Canadian chiropractors demonstrated twice as much interest proportionately compared to all other members of the profession.

CONCLUSIONS: Reasons for the minimal interest in chiropractic history are considered, and recommendations for increasing historical interest and scholarship are provided.
