Abstract/Notes

Excerpt: It is a truism in the scientific community that unless and until new knowledge is published, it does not exist for all scientific intents and purposes. Science is a public process of information acquisition, criticism, refinement and accumulation; private research simply does not count. Moreover, as we have seen, publication in peer-reviewed scientific periodicals involves a formal process intended to promote a higher quality of information than is typically found in other sources (such as trade journals and magazines).
