Abstract/Notes

Objective: To describe the case of a patient with vertebral artery dissection seeking care in a chiropractic clinic.

Clinical Features: A 25-year-old established patient who had previously been successfully treated for neck pain and headache sought care for similar complaints. Several factors in the patient history and presentation of the current complaint raised suspicion of cervical artery dissection.

Intervention and Outcome: Referral was made to a hospital emergency department where advanced imaging confirmed vertebral artery dissection. The patient was treated with anticoagulant therapy, resulting in a positive outcome.

Conclusion: Practitioners must be acutely aware of the varying signs and symptoms, as well as the genetic and environmental risk factors, of cervical artery dissection.
