Abstract/Notes

Objective: To describe the chiropractic care of an adult patient with locomotor and bladder dysfunction as a result of injuries in childhood from a pedestrian-motor vehicle collision.

Clinical Features: The 26-yr-old female patient had locomotor impairments (i.e., a left leg swing gait with a brace) and urinary incontinence. Physical examination revealed subluxations in the left sacroiliac joint, pubic symphysis diastasis, left knee, and left ankle joint derangement.

Intervention and Outcome: High-velocity low-amplitude adjustments, with the aid of a drop table, were applied to the pelvis and left lower extremity. Following the initial visit, the patient’s gait improved without the need of her leg brace. After 2 weeks of care, the patient reported cessation of her bladder dysfunction.

Conclusion: This case demonstrates the salutary effects of chiropractic care based on the clinical framework of structural re-alignment of subluxated pelvic and extremity articulations resulting in restoration of function.
