| Abstract/Notes |
The use of ice to treat injuries and aid in recovery has become very common. This strongly-held belief that "ice is best" is prevalent not only in the general public but also in health care. Two major questions are critically analyzed in this paper, using a variety of expert and evidence-based perspectives: does using ice help with healing and reduce inflammation? Does it suppress the inflammatory process that impedes healing and postpone the body's natural healing plan? Research was sourced from Google Scholar, the Google search engine, PubMed, ResearchGate, ScienceDirect, and Academia. Further education around this topic in the medical community is needed to better help guide sports science and rehabilitation.
