Abstract/Notes The paper examines the assertion that the effects of nerve interference from subluxation are unpredictable. The assumption is that the operation of the nervous system must be known prior to being able to predict effects of nerve interference. Theories of the nervous system are divided into four classes: neuroanatomical and neurophysiological, computational, neuromorphological, and philosophical. Neurological facts and theories from the literature are related to the philosophy of chiropractic. The current predictability of the effects of nerve interference is not significant although the computational, neural network, and neuromorphological theories are opening up possibilities for future study. The sophisticated use of forces and matter by the innate intelligence of the body appears to be supported by the neurological theories.
