Abstract/Notes

Objective: Dizziness is the 9th most common complaint and the first among people >75 years of age. Despite its prevalence, primary care treatment appears to be non-specific and suboptimal. Though chiropractic practice has many anecdotal reports of dizziness improvement under care, documented research is lacking. The objective of this paper is to describe the favorable outcomes of 8 patients with dizziness following an Upper Cervical chiropractic technique and individualized vestibular rehabilitation program.

Methods: Patient records of 8 patients with a vestibular diagnosis were examined. Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) scores before and after 30-days of treatment were analyzed using direct statistical analysis.

Results: The average DHI score improvement for these patients was 67.19%.

Conclusion: A 30-day trial of Orthospinology Upper Cervical chiropractic intervention and a personalized vestibular rehabilitation program was safe and beneficial at reducing self-perceived dizziness handicap in the short term for these 8 patients.
