Abstract/Notes

Modern-day principles for the pathogenesis of chronic disease boils down to the presence of inflammation.  Inflammation can be characterized by swelling, redness, heat, pain, and loss of function.  The driving forces behind this inflammation can be a result of poor diet, heavy metal toxicities, unresolved infections, and environmental pollutants.  This inflammation can impair the zonula occludens in the intestinal tract leading to leaky gut and therefore body-wide inflammation.  A component of green tea called EGCG has been shown to ameliorate the effects of inflammation in the human body.
