Abstract/Notes

Tumeric, an old Indian spice has been proven to have powerful medicinal compounds inside the plant called curcuminoids.  Curcumin (diferuloylmethane) is a polyphenol derived from the Curcuma longa plant, commonly known as tumeric.  Curcumin has different pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Although over 100 species of Curcuma are reported, only Curcuma longa is extensively studied.  However, all curcuminoids can potentially have benefits to the human body and should not be overlooked.
