The author has previously researched the manual manipulative treatment used by Hippocrates to treat vertebral subluxation, and using the Latin, French, and English translations concluded that Hippocrates used a pressure or compression technique. Further research using earlier Greek and Arabic writings of Hippocates, as well as research on how the Greeks established their technical language indicates otherwise. Key Greek words of katanagkazein, and embole, which translate into forceful reduction are discussed. It appears the Hippocrates may have used a forceful thrusting type of treatment when treating vertebral subluxation. A discussion of the ways that translation errors occur follows, as well as a discussion on the meaning of the technical Greek words used, and why their meaning must be interpreted for the time period that they were written in, in order to ascertain the writer's intent.
