| Abstract/Notes |
A reivew of the literature relating to "sustained muscle contraction as a consequence of noxious stimulation," elicits a plethora of different terms in which the muscle reactions are basically the same: spasm, joint fixation, muscle rigidity, joint hypomobility, acute torticolis, et. Insofar as these terms refer to a specific, definable entity, a nomenclature and classification system is proposed for the reflex consequences of sustained noxious stimulation. The relevance of the proposal to differential diagnosis and research is discussed.
