Abstract/Notes

An adult male, after a minor fall, experienced immediate low back and leg pain of an incapacitating type. Examination, one day post trauma, found the patient to display clinical findings consistent with acute lumbar intervertebral annular rupture with nuclear prolapse and sciatic nerve entrapment syndrome. Closed reduction was immediately provided in the form of intermittent lumbar flexion-distraction. Following the procedure, an immediate and dramatic remission in both subjective and objective findings was evident. Complete remission was obtained within ten manipulative sessions over a period of 24 days. Post reduction examinations, performed monthly for three months, have found the patient to remain stable and asymptomatic.
