New York was one of the later states to obtain licensure for chiropractors.  Infighting within the profession coupled with politicking between upstate and downstate factions may have been as much to blame for this situation as medical opposition.  Jane Shaver spent two years battling for chiropractic licensure and was instrumental in achieving favorable legislation.
