The author has done previous research on the early origins of the word subluxation, tracing it back to Greek origins. As a follow-up to this, the author visited the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence, Italy, and had the pleasure of viewing and studying the 10th century Nicetas Codex surgical manuscript, the oldest Greek manuscript on Hippocrates with commentaries of orthopedic methods on fractures, luxations, subluxations, and bandaging techniques. This manuscript is of importance to chiropractors as it contains the Greek word pararthrema, the earliest Greek word for the term 'subluxation.' A physical description of the manuscript and its contents are given, as well as a discussion of Nicetas, the copyist (who may also have been a physician) who organized and wrote the manuscript.
