Objective: To demonstrate the effectiveness of chiropractic care in the management of a three-month-old male infant diagnosed with infantile colic.
Clinical Features: A three-month-old infant was brought to a chiropractic office with a chief complaint of crying, screaming without noticeable causation, increased frequency of bowel movements and increased urination.
Interventions and Outcome: The patient was adjusted using a combination of techniques including sustained contact, Activator, toggle headpiece and cranial technique. The subluxations were commonly in the upper cervical area, thoracic area; sacroiliac joint and cranial dysfunction was also noted. The patient was adjusted a total of nine visits in a period of eleven months. After one month under chiropractic care the symptoms had been resolved.
Conclusion: This case study reports on the successful resolution of colic following the introduction of chiropractic care to reduce subluxations in a three-month-old infant. Further research is necessary in this area.
