Abstract/Notes

Excerpt: Given the nature of infectious diseases, what we describe in this update can only be viewed as a snapshot in time in an ever-changing environment. Canada’s immunization programs continue to evolve in response to the changing epidemiology of infectious diseases and the availability of new vaccines. Decisions to implement new programs and evaluations of existing and new programs are increasingly becoming evidence-based. In an era of competing demands for shrinking health care funding, vaccines continue to be one of the most cost-effective health interventions and compare favorably with any other preventive or therapeutic intervention.
