Abstract/Notes

The radiographic findings characteristic of this condition have been described for over 35 years.  The disorder has been known under a variety of names, the most common being ankylosing herostosis and Forestier's disease.  Resnick and associates recently proposed that the disorder be referred to as diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) because extra spinal manifestations are common and may be more extensive than spinal alterations.
