Many of the myths of medical sociology regarding chiropractic as an unorthodox cult have been discredited in recent studies reporting to the various federal and provincial jurisdictions of Canada, the United States, and New Zealand. Funding for the summary material in this paper was originally provided by the Research Programs Directorate, Health and Welfare of Canada, and published in the book “Chiropractors: Do They Help?” (1981).
While the studies in the United States and New Zealand will be mentioned, the bulk of the presentation will deal with Canada, where chiropractic was evolved as an integral part of the health care delivery system.
