Abstract/Notes The Alabama State Board of Chiropractic Examiners (ASBCE) created by the Alabama State Legislature in 1959 was originally composed of five chiropractors nominated by the Alabama State Chiropractic Association (ASCA). It mutated into a governor’s appointment from a list nominated in each of seven congressional district caucuses plus a consumer member. It later was reconfigured to be composed of chiropractors elected by their peers in each district plus one at-large minority member, as well as a consumer member. The current democratic plan avoids wasting the profession’s political clout with the governor over board appointments, thus preserving it for issues of greater importance. This history concludes with 2006.
