Abstract/Notes This paper provides a history of the formation of the Franco-European Institute of Chiropractic in Paris, France. The creation of the EFEC was the work of a minority of practitioners who were aware that only a school could safeguard the chances of the discipline as such existing in France, the chances of obtaining a regulatory status equivalent to that of the profession elsewhere in the world, and, as a result, the chances of survival. These chiropractors’ vision of the school as a precondition to the profession’s survival seems to have been borne out by recent events.
