Abstract/Notes Excerpt: On June 9-10, 2005 the first in what is hoped to be a trend of collaborations occurred between the Canadian and United States institutes charged with improving the knowledge base of health care. The Conference on the Biology of Manual Therapies was held with joint sponsorship at the Natcher Conference Center of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The purpose of the conference was to review the state of the art and progress in the knowledge base underlying manipulation and other manual therapies and to set research priorities for the next era of studies. The CIHR-NIH co-organized conference was announced in the February 2005 editionof Brain Brief. It is the outcome of several discussions between CIHR, under its international cooperation initiative, the Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA) and the National Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).
