Abstract/Notes Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the musculoskeletal system. Progressive complaints of axial stiffness and restriction in movement may not be addressed by general medical practitioners. While AS has a progressive natural history, chiropractors may play a significant role in early detection, patient education, and management. Early diagnosis and therapy may help to minimize future pain and disability. Chiropractic treatment methods coupled with individualized active rehabilitation techniques should be directed to reduce pain, minimize functional loss and optimize quality of life.
